Adobe, Why is it so expensive?

I have been a long time user of Lightroom ever since they release the first beta for the product. Since then I've upgraded and stick with 2.2 until today, simply because I didn't find version 3 had much improvement for what I do. Now with version 4 I think its high time I upgrade, although version 5 is on the horizon I think I can live with 4 for couple of years.

But I must confess, living in this awesome land where any software cost 5 bucks (that's USD not RM), I never bought an Adobe product ever... until today.

The trigger point for me was when Adobe announce a $30 off Lightroom 4. I was ecstatic, jumping for joy and even giggling like a kid thinking Lightroom will now be available for slightly over RM 350! What a steal I thought, until it came time to pay.

Adobe forced me to buy it from their Asia-Pacific site, fine by me as long as its still $30 off. Wrong!, they were still putting the original price, even after putting in the promo code. Actually the promo code didn't work at all. So my guess they knew where I was coming from and I am pretty sure the promo code is only valid in North America.

So now I've ditch Adobe and am seriously thinking to buy Aperture since it is much more cheaper at around RM 250. I simply can't phantom, comprehend, make sense why they simply can't have a single global promo code and why the need for an online store in Asia-Pac? Won't it be much more cheaper to just have one online store and rake in all the profits back to HQ rather than split it with the regional business units, who might just be sales people trying to sell the boxed version. It is simply ridiculous!

The West complain about people in Asia buying pirated software, but they fail to understand that we still pay for it!... just its way cheaper (maybe now a majority just download it off the net but they're still people buying em). So I am sure Asians are willing to pay as long as the price is right. I'm sure Apple got a gazillion new customers in Asia when they reduce the price of Aperture, a single price globally makes sense, a promo code that only works in North America will start an angry blog post.

So Adobe my question is why is it bloody expensive to buy Lightroom?

Update: Lightroom 5 was release for the same price but I think I'll go and find a box unit of Lightroom 4. Should be cheaper, right?
